North West Academies

There has been some confusion regarding the different types of junior academies this season hopefully the info below will answer all queries. If you have any further questions please contact nmcdermott@basketballireland.ie

 

There are academies at u14, u15 and u16 for boys and girls. The u14 and u16 academies are similar to last season and are organised and run by the North West area board.

The u15 academy is a Basketball Ireland Initiative which is throughout the country and the u15 NW Regional Academy includes the NWAB region and Mayo.


U14 and U16 NWAB Academies

Purpose:

Designed for players from throughout the region to come and play and train together under top coaches to help improve the standard of basketball locally. Will compete in end of season tournament.

Organisers:

North West Area Board

Players Eligible:

Any player playing club basketball in the NWAB region.

Dates:

(Already held open trial and first session in November)

  • 10th December
  • 13th January
  • 10th February
  • 4th March

Further dates and date of tournament to be held post club season.

Location:

Centrally located in Ballyshannon / Donegal Town

Cost:

€30 for training sessions until March due on 10th December


 

U15 Irish Regional Academy

Purpose:

Designed for top players from throughout the region to come and play and train together under top coaches to help improve the standard of basketball locally and to develop a similar skillset for all players throughout the country. Also used to select the Irish u16 team for European championships in Summer 2019.

Organisers:

Basketball Ireland /CPSU

Players Eligible:

Any player playing club or school basketball in the NWAB region and in Mayo.

Dates:

(Already held first open trial in November)

  • 10th December, Sligo IT 1.30pm – 4pm

Further dates to be forwarded once player selected for academy. 50 hours of coaching before start of summer 2017.

Location:

Centrally located in between Sligo – Donegal Town

Cost:

€250 if selected for academy.
